About The Toyota Prado

The Toyota Prado was introduced to South African shores in 1995 and has remained popular with the local market due to its reliability, comfort, versatility and affordable price tag. The Prado offers seating for up to 7 people, with rear and middle rows that can be folded and easily adjusted to create extra storage room or add more comfortable legroom for the third row. Engine

There were five different engines made available for the Toyota Prado. They are the 3.0 L 1GR-FE, 4.0 L 2GR-FE, 4.7 L 3UR-FE, 5.7 L 2FZ-FE and 6.0 L 2UZ-FE. These engines were made using Toyota’s D4 direct injection technology, DOHC valve train and VVTi to improve power and fuel efficiency.

Toyota Prado Engine block

The function of engine block is to seal cylinders while accepting airflow from the intake manifold for each combustion chamber and distributing that throughout the crankcase via a separate branch pipe. The engine block also houses many components such as: piston assemblies, crankshaft, spark plugs, intake and exhaust valves (some models), camshaft(s) (some models), oil pan (some models). Common reasons for replacement are worn out engine blocks and the block being cracked.

Toyota Prado Pistons

The function of piston assemblies is to seal cylinders while reciprocating up and down so that the crankshaft can turn. Pistons are fitted with rings, which stop compression during the combustion process. Common reasons for replacement are worn out pistons or rings, damaged cylinder walls and/or valves.

The function of the cylinder head is to seal off the engine block from cylinders, while accepting airflow from intake manifold for each combustion chamber. The oil pan contains a sump with a drain plug to remove the collected oil from the pan. Common reasons for replacement are worn out oil pans, broken drain plugs and/or leaking pressure relief valves (models).

Toyota Prado Valves

The function of valves is to control airflow into and out of engine cylinders during the combustion process. Valves open and close at specific times in order for optimum performance. The intake valve opens just before the piston reaches the top of its stroke on its way down while allowing air into an engine cylinder during this process. The exhaust valve closes just after a piston has reached the bottom of its travel as it comes up so that compressed air can be expelled an engine cylinder. Common reasons for replacement are worn out valves, damaged cylinder walls and/or burnt valves.

The function of valve springs is to open and close the intake and exhaust valves at specific times in order for optimum performance. Common reasons for replacement are worn out valve springs, broken valve springs or loose retainers which may cause stuck valves.
