Suspension for Toyota Prado

Every Prado generation runs IFS up front — torsion-bar on the J90, coil-sprung double wishbone from the J120 onwards. The rear tells a different story: J90 and J120 retain a live rear axle on coils, while the J150 moved to IRS on trims fitted with KDSS and AHC. Toyota Prado suspension parts we quote on include shock absorbers, coil springs, torsion bars, leaf packs (commercial J90 variants), upper and lower control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar links, bushings and the full KDSS hydraulic system.

KDSS components are the single biggest suspension request from Prado owners — a leaking KDSS valve or bleed point leaves the truck sitting uneven and the owner hunting. Budget R7k-R12k for a used KDSS valve assembly from a J150. Used aftermarket lift kits (OME, Ironman, Dobinsons) can sell at a discount to new. Used upper control arms for J120 and J150 are in steady demand given the ball joint wear on high-km SA rigs. Specify year, trim (TX vs VX) and whether your Prado has KDSS for an accurate quote.

Suspension for Toyota Prado — Frequently Asked

How do I know if my Prado has KDSS?

Check under the chassis behind the front wheels — if you see two hydraulic cylinders with pipes running between front and rear sway bars, you have KDSS. It was fitted to higher TX and VX trims of the J120 and J150. Lower-spec TX models ran conventional sway bars. KDSS ride height correction after a suspension change requires a specific bleed procedure.
