A brake pad (sometimes a shoe ) is a part of the brake system and its main working component. It is the brake pad that creates braking acceleration due to the interaction with the rolling surface of the wheel or brake disc and converting the pressing force into braking torque. They are actively used in all types of wheeled vehicles.

In everyday life, a brake shoe is also called a chock, which serves to additionally secure the vehicle when parked.
